FIRST LANDING PARK TO THE VA BEACH OCEAN FRONT

Saturday, September 19, 2020 meet at 10:00 AM - ride at 10:30 AM

at First Landing State Park

2500 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451

You will need a bike, a helmet, sunscreen, water, parking $ and lunch $$.

This is a one-day activity. Overnight lodging is ON YOUR OWN.

Getting to First Landing:

Take I-64 to Virginia Beach.  From I-64, take Northampton Blvd.-U.S. 13 North (Exit 282). Go through eight lights, turn right at the Shore Drive/U.S. 60 exit (last exit before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel). Take a right on Shore Drive and go four and a half miles to the park entrance on the left (Bay) side of Shore Drive. Drive time from Richmond, approximately 2 hours.

Where to Meet at First Landing:

Enter the park at the light and main entrance off Shore Drive.  ($ for parking). This parking area is on the bay side of the park.  Meet in the public parking area to the left of the Gatehouse.  Look for an RSC group sign in that parking area.  This will be on the BAY and campground side of the park.

What to Expect:

Meet us at 10:00 AM and be ready to bike at 10:30 AM.  We will ride as a group at a moderate but steady pace to the oceanfront.  Park and road conditions will determine which way we ride.

Plan A – Weather permitting, we will ride through the park on a mainly flat paved/packed dirt bike path which requires some challenging riding if muddy or crowded.  Plan B – If the park bike path is too muddy, we will ride along the roadway on the paved, flat and separated bike lane along Shore Drive, Atlantic Ave and then on to the Boardwalk at the oceanfront area.  Either route is about 10 miles, one way, to the oceanfront boardwalk area.  At the oceanfront, we will enjoy lunch as a group or you may lunch on your own. We will bike back to the park, as a group, at a time determined by group consensus or you may return from the oceanfront to First Landing on your own.

Warnings:  If the weather is soggy, we will travel by Shore Dr (Plan B).  If storms are predicted or if it is RAINING, we will CANCELALL RSC activities are subject to COVID-19 rules, changes and cancellations.
