Surry Bike Ride

Meet: Surry County Government Center near intersection of Routes 10 & 31 in Surry County (School St, Surry, VA).
Come join Brian Shortell and Sonny Clarke as they lead us on one of Brian’s favorite rides in Surry County. The route is on county roads, but the traffic is minimal and courteous; the roads are pretty flat the entire trip; and the rural scenery entertains the rider. Best of all, we will stop along the route for ice cream at College Run Farms—it is pumpkin season and therefore the taste choice will be vanilla or pumpkin. The plan is to take the 25 mile route that skirts Bacon’s Castle on route 10 and then steers to our rest stop at Chippokes Plantation and then to College Run Farms for the home-made ice cream—vanilla or Pumpkin!
Bring: water, sunscreen, helmets, and money for ice cream (or a Pumpkin). Bring a snack for mid-ride if you want when we stop mid ride at Chippokes Plantation. After the ride, all interested can stop at the newly opened Surry Seafood Co. restaurant on Gray’s Creek.
Directions from Southside Richmond: Drive down route 460 to the town of Wakefield. At the intersection of route 460 and route 31 intersect in Wakefield, take a left on route 31, drive 15.1 miles until you see the Surry County Government Center on your right just past the Surry County public library.
Directions from Northside Richmond: Travel via the Jamestown-to-Scotland ferry which drops you on route 31. Stay on route 31 and drive 4.5 miles until you see the Surry County Government Center on your left.
Meet and park in the large gravel lot behind the Surry County Government Center, a sprawling tan colored single story building just south of the intersection of routes 10 and 31.
NOTE: The government complex will be closed—e.g. no bathrooms so plan ahead.
